Yesterday marked the end of the 2013 Smurfboy Endurance Race Series put on by the North Texas Mountain Bike Patrol. These are unsanctioned 4 hour races held to support the Patrol and their beneficiary charities and groups. The races are well attended, casual and fun but it always brings out some great racing talent.

My part of the series was volunteer Emcee and Timekeeper. I provided a computer based Race Clock to make sure racers always knew how long they had left in the race when checking in at scoring. As someone who had experience on a microphone I also made announcements and helped present the awards and raffle prizes.

The NTMBP are a great group of people and even though I was there as a “worker” I had a lot of fun with the patrollers and the racers. The Patrol provides free food and drink (cooked in an awesome portable camp kitchen) to all participants. The races go into the night in an effort to beat the Texas heat adding additional challenge as lights are needed. This is a yearly series and they also put on a standalone race in the winter. If you are looking for fun challenge in the Dallas summer look no further than Smurfboy!
